Kori Johnson is an Illinois native, but she is incredibly excited for her new adventure in New Bern, North Carolina.
She joined NewsChannel 12 as a general assignment reporter in January 2019. During her undergraduate career Kori interned for KDKA in Pittsburgh where she shadowed reporters and first learned to really practice her craft. She also interned with WBBM in Chicago as a sports intern where she had the opportunity interview Chicago teams including the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs organization players.
Kori has had a passion for storytelling ever since middle school when she started telling her classmates she would be on TV one day. She believed God gave her a gift and that she could walk in her purpose and she is. It is truly a privilege to tell the stories of those in her community because “news is people and people are news” – something one of her mentors once told her that has always stuck with her.
Kori joins us as a recent graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh where she double majored in Multi-platform Journalism and Communications while playing Division 1 Volleyball for the university. Kori is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as well as the National Association of Black Journalists.
When she is not telling stories you can find Kori teaching Sunday school at her local church, watching Quentin Tarantino movies on repeat or roaming the isles of Hobby Lobby looking for different crafting ideas.
