Harriet Wallace is one of Nashville’s leading journalists and is happy to call Fox 17 her news home.
She’s a native of Nashville, TN and a graduate of Hunters Lane High School – but she won’t tell you which year she graduated.
She has more than 15 years in the business under her belt and is the lead host of the popular Pumps & Politics talk show which she created. She has also been at the forefront of many of the country’s biggest headlines and was the only news reporter from Northwest Arkansas to be embedded with the Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina. She also provided network news coverage for Hurricane Rita. Not one to miss the big story, she covered other big news events such as the Virginia Tech mass shooting and the Mary Winkler trial. She doesn’t just report. Harriet has produced Emmy award-winning newscasts.
When she’s not in the newsroom covering the big stories, you can find her in the community. She is co-founder of the North Nashville Flood Relief Group that helped more than 500 residents recover from the historic 2010 flood. She’s received numerous community awards and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Links, Inc and is a former two-term president of the Nashville chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
When she’s not practicing journalism, she’s teaching it. She’s taught multimedia journalism, convergence journalism and public speaking on the collegiate level. Harriet was nominated twice as Adjunct Teacher of the Year and was named Journalism Educator of the Year by the Southeastern Journalism Conference.
Harriet received her undergraduate degree from Hampton University’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism, her Master’s from Austin Peay State University and is currently a candidate for her PhD in Public Administration.
She is HAPPILY married to her honey bear Scott Wallace who is also married to sports. Together, they have helped send more than 20 students to college on sports scholarships.
